May 5, Pasir Gudang, Malaysia and Benschop, the Netherlands – Terberg announces the global introduction of its latest generation of electric terminal tractors with the launch of the next generation Terberg YT201EV and the enhanced Terberg YT203EV, strengthening Terberg’s leadership in zero‑emission shunting solutions for ports, logistics hubs and industrial operations worldwide.
The next‑generation YT201EV was officially launched during the Terberg Global East & South Distributor Days on 5–6 May in Malaysia, where more than 60 distributors and partners from over 30 countries gathered. The event also marked the 20th anniversary of Terberg Tractors Malaysia, celebrating two decades of manufacturing excellence.
Terberg Tractors Malaysia is a joint venture between Royal Terberg Group and Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd (Sime), established in 2005 to serve regional and global markets from its production facility in Pasir Gudang. Over the past 20 years, the joint venture has grown into a key production hub within the Terberg Group, supporting diesel and electric terminal tractor production with an annual capacity of over 1,000 units and serving customers worldwide.
Produced at Terberg’s Pasir Gudang facility, the YT201EV is designed for East and South global markets and represents a major step forward in electric terminal tractor performance, efficiency and usability. The included market response has been strong with over 250 orders secured ahead of launch.
The YT201EV has been comprehensively redesigned with a next‑generation engineering architecture that enhances performance, serviceability and operational reliability in demanding terminal environments. The larger cabin offers improved visibility, refined ergonomics and a modernised driver interface, supporting operator comfort, safety and productivity.
While distinct in engineering design and tailored for different regional markets, both the YT201EV and YT203EV feature Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology. A 310 kWh battery system is available to support multi‑shift terminal operations* without intermediate charging under typical operating conditions, while a 155 kWh battery option offers a solution for applications with lower energy requirements. Both electric models share Terberg’s focus on operational reliability, safety and driver comfort and include the Terberg Connect telematics system for preventive maintenance and fleet monitoring.
Later this month, at TOC Europe in Hamburg (19–21 May), Terberg will showcase the enhanced YT203EV, which will be produced in Benschop, the Netherlands, and Columbus, Mississippi, USA, highlighting Terberg’s strategy of combining regional production with a global reach. Production is scheduled to commence later this summer.
Boo Wei Ching, Chief Executive Officer of Terberg Tractors Malaysia, commented:
“The launch of the YT201EV is a proud moment for our team and a strong endorsement of the capabilities we have built over the past 20 years. From Pasir Gudang, we have delivered more than 8,000 terminal tractors to over 50 countries. The response to the YT201EV confirms that customers trust our manufacturing quality, technical expertise and long‑term aftersales support as they transition to electric operations without compromising performance.”
Jan Willem van den Brand, Global Sales Director at Terberg Special Vehicles, commented:
“With the next generation YT201EV and the upgraded YT203EV, we are offering customers a clearly structured electric portfolio, tailored to operational needs and regional requirements. Producing electric terminal tractors from three strategic locations in Malaysia, Europe and the United States allows us to combine global scale with localized production, offering long‑term support for customers worldwide.”
Supported by Terberg’s global service hubs in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Malaysia, and Terberg’s extensive distributor network, customers benefit from local service, parts availability and long‑term operational support.
